The pretty seaside town of Dawlish is famous for the black swans that live amongst other waterfowl on the brook which flows through the town. Very much a traditional seaside town, the sandy beach is backed by shops, cafes and amusements. Cyclists and walkers can follow the scenic route from Dawlish to Exeter, or cross the estuary on the pedestrian ferry at nearby Starcross to Exmouth where you can join the Exe Estuary Trail. Just outside of Dawlish, off the A379, along a private drive leading to a small, family-run campsite is The Roost, an attractive detached cottage with its own private, enclosed garden.
